ive always thought that the studio version is the best.

But i would like to know which live ones are good too

cause when i hear a live box of rain, i always think: "oh, the studio version i better".

so, which lives are good??

Personally, this "song" for me is all in the power of the "song" in itself. I will take any BofR and "keep it cause I need it."

Box of Rain 3-24-1993 Singing not as good on this one but Jerry's playing is very nice. I was at this one and it completly changed the show. When the first notes were played I was wandering the hallway watching the twirlers be harrassed by drunk rednecks when the crowd went nuts and the old timers all just freaked and headed inside fast to hear the tune. The show really took off from this point on. Great song but doesn't always come through on live recordings with the challenging vocals. fun sing along though.

I can't really get away from the studio version on American Beauty, it's timeless and one of best recorded songs they did.

My first show at Calaveras County Fairgrounds. First song was Box of Rain, blew my mind - haven't seen it since!

I think my favorite attended was 7/19/89 the final show at Alpine Valley (not that we knew it at the time)

There's a hilariously trainwrecked one from 72 or 73 where between verses, Phil is berating either Bob, Jerry and/or Keith saying something like "C'mon, don't you remember how the changes go?" ... wish I could remember the date.

I went to Zephyr and since I am always looking for some DP 28 action I listened to the Non-DP 28 they have up there and the 'Box of Rain' from that show was great! That would be Lincoln 1973-02-26. I was there, first show, and from what I've heard of it some 30 years later, it was a fantastic show.
