Count me in for the Ratdog show.

I still go to both whenever they are around town however. It depends on what phil band is coming around whether or not I have a good time or a great time. I am a big fan of sless so if he is coming along count me in. I loved the vegoose line up that had herring with sless together if they just didn't have the black crowes dude doing vocals. However ratdog is always a GREAT time for me.

I think I might get stoned for this, but I would rather see ratdog or phil and friends then going to see the "dead" again. The other ones shows from 98 where very cool but after that I have not been to impressed with the "core 4" and friends. Rather just see the dog or phils pals.

I'd be down with maybe another terrapin station event where rat dog, phil and friends, and rhythm devils play their own sets and then get together for a set. But another tour with each other might end with bobby and phil actually killing each other. I like em around just the way they are.

PS - I think the best PL&F line-up ever is the one w/ Trey from last summer, though at times I really could've done without Greg Osby on sax - not only did I not think he was that great during his solos, but he got out front too much of the time in the mix, at least at the shows I saw. But Trey brought nastiness and grit to the jams & solos that the other players didn't, and I thought he meshed VERY well w/ LC7 (I call Campbell that because that's about how many instruments he was playing that tour!). I liked Warren a whole lot as well, he's not one I'd ever kick off stage, I'll just say that. But I was never big on Herring, I've said it before so I won't over-type, but I thought he riffed too much, scales scales scales, and no big cresendos or climax, always leaving me with the musical equivilent of blue balls. Sless I could go either way with, I guess, and if I had to choose I'd probably take him over LC7.

I also think Barraco was the best fit for keys w/ PL&F because he lends another good voice to the mix, however I will say in regards to Barraco to much of him IS just that: too much. I like him in smaller doses. I think he got a little too heady for his own good during that run where he was singing a ton of the songs ('00 or '01 maybe?). But he brings a lot to the sound, both for the keys and the vocals, not to mention the cool cover songs he brought in and/or sang (esp. all the Beatles stuff, he was really good at that I thought).

So, without further adieu, here is my quintesential (pun intended) PLQ line-up:

Bass - duh
Guitar - Trey
Guitar - Warren
Keys - Barraco
Drumz - Molo


and maybe throw in LC7 as "side instrument guy" (guitar, fiddle, mandolin, sitar, banjo, etc. etc. etc.) and maybe have him sit in on only certain songs so it doesn't get too muddled up.

i was disapointed with cambell every time i saw him, but i listened to the recent show with jackie and he wasnt too bad... next tour if i'm payin $60 again i want a trey warren or kimock

I agree with you about barraco shakedown. He was what I thought of when you say phil's keys player. I still like him a whole lot. I thought he had a great voice as well and really was starting to nail some of jerry's songs, casey jones was one he would always nail. I think with the guitar players we just have different taste. I guess that is why phil changes it up. I agree the herring never really hits those crecendo's that take it over the top but that is what I like about him. I've never been a big fan of warren haynes becuase it seems like every solo he takes ends with him whailin' away on the strings. I didn't like it when jerry use to do that either becuase to me it seemed like he had just run out of ideas so lets make the crowd cheer while I play real loud and hard. I do love trey with phil and friends. He is a good mixture of the two. He can make it rock but he really takes the jams to a thoughtful and headie space. My only beef with him in the lineup it means he gets the majority of the vocals and I can't really dig him singing dead tunes. There is no rootsy soul to his voice at all and I need that. Some don't but I do. I'd rather listen to phil sing then trey. However I'd still rather listen to trey then some fake sounding cheese soul like chris robinson and joan. Mark K is my favirote for the post dead "jerry's) Really adds a nice flavor with out being over the top. And I love the david nelson band so sless and mookie siegel where always picks I enjoyed.

In fact the only picks I absolutely hated where chris robinson and joan.

Oh yeah I thought ryan adams was terrible with phil and friends also. I like his albums, but those where some bad shows.
