somewhere in the beginning it sounds like it goes from a c to maybe F? and if thats correct, how long do you play in this key... or is it all in c just being played with a different "sound" than just noodlin off that basic riff?

the song is in C major, I am not sure what part of the song you are talking about , the instrumental section after a verse ends or the jam at the end of the song, at the end of the song it starts in C, that the iv chord F, up a whole step to G(v chord) and repeats, after second time into chorus end song ends.

It stays on C for a while - 8 measures maybe? You could make it 12. Then it goes to F for 4 measures then to G for 4 measures...

Then it repeats that whole pattern again. This time, after the G it goes to beginning of rthe chorus > Bb-F-G-C

I always thought after running through the C>F>G prog 2x it held on the C for a couple of measures before going into the C>G>C main lick before the chorus. Not the Bb>F>G>C. I'll have to give another listen.
