I don't know if this is already a post out there, but I just came into possesion of all 36 (unless there are more I don't know of) Dick's Picks, and after a week of importing and organizing and labeling I have got them all in my iTunes library. My question is, what are your favorite volumes of the Picks, or maybe some of your favorite tracks even. No need to limit down to one volume or album or song, because there is so much to pick from. Just a few favorites. I gotta' know where to start listening 5.3 straight days of music I just added here...

I've always had a place in my heart for Vol. 11.I was lucky enough to be at that show. And what a FREAKIN show it was.3 sets!...And the set openers! Morning Dew...China-Rider...Dark star...Whew!... Ahh to be 18 again...Happy...High...and Healthy...And the GRATEFUL DEAD!!! I was seeing the Dead for about a year and a half at that point...And that has always been a stand-out show...One I will always remember. "Let the words be yours I'm done with mine."

I completed the collection awhile back and what I did first is to listen to them in chronological order; (by oldest date first). Its amazing to hear the obvious and also subtle diffrences in the recordings over time.

After that, go back and listen to them randomly, (in dick's order is good) and you'll be more familiar with the music and the periods of time they represent.

....Or.... get real comfortable with a box of twinkies and just listen.

-I think the Sugaree on DP3 is one of the Deads all time greatest performances, I think its as strong as the the Barton Hall Dew

-DP 14 has a great PITB on disk 4, the jam on there will freak you the fuck out (reminds me of some horror movie music) and then put a smile on your face 2 min later because of the jam Bobby goes into

-DP 19 is fantastic all around, Im fond of the Dew, Jerry and Phil TEAR it to shreds, Ive never heard a 1st solo that strong

-I love the Bass Other One Jam>Spanish jam on DP 12

-IMO the Loser on DP10 is the greatest all time version of that song, listen to it loud, Jerrys solo slices through everything

Try the Dew from 2-24-74, 9-11-73, 69 Fillmore Boxset. All much better than that Dew. I still am not seein what makes that Dew so great. The Jack Straw from there though. Thats a different story. Love those fast runs.
