I used to go see Max Creek on the East Coast in the 80's and you are right on about them, those guys freaking rock out and take the jams to great places ... would love to see them again, they still around

as a Rhode Islanda.. I used to see them weekly at the old lupos (and even the older lupos) and the living room in 80's. Still around and doing well..They've been together 30 plus years now, hard to believe.

For old times sake I saw them at the "new" lupos at the Strand theater and they still can throw down with the best of them. They also have a great repertoire of original music.

I only have one beef with them.

Way back when they did a live album. Just before it came out, I asked a couple of them before the show if there was going to be a Dead tune on it.....note I said "A", single......one.

You see, they were/are a Dead cover band, sort of, I mean they played the Dead very well, but they had lots of really good originals in addition to mixing in other great cover tunes....I remember they used to do a smokin', spacey, Magic Carpet Ride.

ANYWAY........

When I asked the question, they looked at me like I had three heads and replied to me in quite the snotty tone.......No!

Now, I expected that the album would be mostly originals, but I saw no reason for them not to pay some respects, ya hear me?

Well, to top it all off, there was a jam on one side of one record that was clearly Wharf Rat. So that sucks. I mean you give me grief cuz I ask the question, then did do it, but ya didn't even give credit.

So......I got that off my chest!

H.L. Wilfreds in '83? There's a real good chance I was there.

Wilfred's is actually the place where I played my first gig.

We use to travel from NH down to the Living Room and Lupos all the time to see these guys. We loved Creek back in the day. I even preferred seeing them over Phish.

We checked them out not to long ago Scottie played acoustic which was cool. He gained some weight which I think is good.

hey ebick they smoked that tune Magic Mushroom Ride

I used to go see these guys in the late 70s. It seemed we went every weekend. They had three regular gigs right around my house. And waaaay before that, I was the drummer's paperboy. Never any money, very smoky house, hmmm. They were great, and I couldn't believe how much ground Scott covered as a single guitar player. They used to do the best Peggy-O ever, bar none. I'm glad they're still playing, wish I could get up to see them.

Hello all -

At the time we were making that live album, "clone bands" were the rage, and I can't tell you how many times we got labeled as a Dead clone band. Even though we covered the Dead, we certainly didn't play the stuff like the Dead.

And I would dispute that the jam on that album is a Wharf Rat jam, but I haven't listened in a while.

My apologies if I was rude to you back then. Being a Dead Tribute band was a touchy subject!! Besides, we've never recorded any covers we would have to pay royalties on. We were very broke back then!!

Peace!!

It's all good.....I don't think it was you.

And for what it's worth, I don't think of you as a Dead clone band. Never did. I think you guys really got the spirit of Dead music, applying it in your own way to your complete package.

So anyways......as long as yer here, why don't ya lay down some riffs for us (if ya just found us, not sure if you know what we're all about here).
