yea may 77 is on fire.. what i find interesting with this show is the wharfrat into terrapin..

they pretty much jam from wharfrat into terrapin, but they just jam straight to INSPIRATION.. a five minute terrapin.. hah! but its still awesome, but the 05-07 version is smokin hot.

1977 was definitely the year for Sugaree, and the one you mentioned is excellent. One version that doesn't seem to get attention is one from the fall, 10/9/77 from Denver. It might not be the "best" but it most certainly is the most INTENSE version! That thing rages.

I love this jam, too. This type of jam occurred twice in May '77. On 5/19 the Uncle John's starts with the final chorus ("How does the song go?") before circling back to the beginning. Good stuff.

Dp3 is a sweet one. I love how disc 2 is practically all Jerry. What a freakin Dew! Really the whole edited thing just is so very good. One of my favorite "Sugaree's" ever. Right up there with 3-18-77 (a laid back less is more version) and 4-29-77 as well as the stupendous longest monster version ever (I think) 5-28-77.

Well it seems there must be something special about DP 3 from all I've heard. My budget is pretty much used up for this month but #3 will be among the next ones on the list. I bet Donna was singing beautifully on that show as well (I only just started to like her, more and more each day, after getting my first blast of '77 Dead...)

Every time I hear the Sugaree into Music Never Stopped from that show I bust out into that same shit eatin grin. I swear it dosn't get any better. One time I got really wasted and that Sugaree put a smile on me so huge that my face almost popped in half like that kid from south park. They otta put warning labels on that CD.

I find it odd that you mentioned Donna's singing as oppose to Jerry/Bobby/Phil/Keiths playing

You kiddin me? Without her Greatest Story and Passenger is beat. Also listen to her with JGB. She does a great Stir It Up. She really does have an amazing voice. Its just whether she is on key or not and if she is trying to scream or trying to sing.

Donna almost killed every otherwise exceptional version of "Greatest Story" I've ever heard from that era. She was ok at certain times but Janis Joplin she was not.
