He kicks ass man, I jus started listening to him a few weeks ago. His jams blow my mind. He plays a 7 string guitar. Anybody have any recomendations of his tunes?

Big fan of the album called Duo. Just him and a sick drummer Leon Parker. Really tight and crisp album.

Seeing Charlie live is a very humbling experience. Not a lot of cats who can do what he does as well as he does it. He is also known to be a hot head and yell at crowds who don't behave (be quiet and listen) at his shows. At least he used to be like that about 10 years ago when I saw him a bunch.

Still like him though, despite wanting to slap him a few times for yelling at people who paid to see him.

And he actually plays an 8 string guitar. I know this because that is how he introduces himself at shows, "I'm Charlie Hunter and I play the 8 string guitar"

Just saw him and his trio for the first time last night! An excellent evening for an outdoor show at the Oregon Zoo. Ran into rukind newbie Pete B. there towards the end. Some very cool and sometimes funky ensemble explorations, mostly on the mellower side. Pete summed it up pretty well: "I thought I would see a lot more blazing fusiony guitar solos"

I read an interview with him one time and he plainly said, I have no idea how to "shred" or whatever. He's just a groove master. He plays the guitar and bass at the same time on the same instrument, that alone does it for me. He's crazy talented, and yes, used to get upset at this audiences when they were filled with jam band loving hippies who would make a bunch of noise/talk. He also makes the funniest faces ever when he plays, they're priceless.

I saw him playing guitar in Michael Franti's political rap group, The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy in 1992, they were the opening act for U2's Zoo TV when they played in Ames, IA. While the rest of the people in that band were running around the stage he just stood there playing a steady stream.

Charlie is a killer guitar player, phenomoninal grooves with killer lead lines. When I first discovered Hunter I was sure that the eight-string was just some sort of gimmicky instrument to compensate for poor playing, but after the first track I was blown away. He treats it like it is a totally new instrument, not a guitar or a bass, but some two-headed beast spawned from the two. Truely brilliant stuff he puts out.

This show is totally killer, whether you are just diggin' into Charlie for the first time or whether you just can't get enough.
