Got a great idea for an album. Tony Bennett sings the songs of Jerry Garcia.

Imagine Tony crooning out such Jerry classics like:

Stella Blue
Ship Of Fools
Black Muddy River
Candyman
Comes A Time
If I Had The World To Give
So Many Roads
Standing on the Moon
Mission In The Rain
High Time

I can hear it now...

If you can hear it now, you need to jump into those flood waters until it covers your ears. :)

Bonus Track or B Side: It must have been the Roses.

:o Now I think it's safe to say you like Garcia, so no love for Bennett then?

I've had visions of Neil Young and Crazy Horse singing Rhapsody In Red :D

No, not a Tony Bennett fan especially. But it would seem especially incongruous to me to hear Tony belting out Jerry tunes. I'm not medicated enough to be able to picture that. ;)

I could imagine TLEO being crooned, the slower later way of course. Or Ramble on Rose, in a conversational kind of way.

Imagine how awful Dark Star could be, played be a swing band and sung by a crooner? lol

I love the idea! He'd get a great response if he did it, I bet. I'd sure listen to it and maybe even buy a cd.

I'm going to get in touch with Tony's people to tell them he needs to do it!

I'll offer myself as a producer and arranger!

I think Niel Diamond would be more appropriate.
He's already playing with Ron Tutt on drums.

FWIW.. Tony's daughter was a regular at shows in the 90's (maybe before but i never met her before that)..

While there's no Dark Star on it, there is a CD "swinging to the Grateful Dead".. It always gets a big laugh when people realize what they are hearing when i play it. It could have been a neat idea, but unfortunately most arrangements are cheesy and reminiscent of elevator music. jb

Hmmm, I'm not so sure. Not really a fan of Diamond, plus my idea is really getting a proper crooner doing Garcia's tunes. No one better than Bennett around today though he is getting on a bit.
