Wednesday, July 18th:
6:00 pm-- Family Groove Company: Caught the last half of their set. Mediocre jams.
6:30 pm-- New Primitives: Mediocre funky drums and reggae. During a jam I called out to a friend I heard a ~12 second China Cat tease. Legitimacy of the tease was in question. Said friend later bumped into the guitarist and we received confirmation from the source that he did in fact tease.
8:30 pm-- Blueground Undergrass: Mediocre jammy bluegrass. Too much jam, not enough raw grass. About three or four great foot-stomping songs.
Thursday, July 19th:
4:00 pm-- Galactic: Wow. Blew my mind. Funky, jazzy jams; saxophone included. The only way to describe the set is that it was a never ending spinning, flipping quadruple helix. Each instrument wound about each other, slowly coming back together for jams, then ripped off and spun about until they collided together again. Insane.
4:00 pm--Particle: Unfortunately, this was booked at the same time as Galactic. I only caught ten minutes. No saxophone, but synthesizer. Our group was a split decision on whom was better, Galactic or Particle. My final review between Galactic and Particle is "Sax or Synth," whichever you are preferring that day.
9:00 pm--Umphrey's McGee: Missed most the show, heard it was mediocre.
11:30 pm--Disco Biscuits: Missed the show, heard it was mediocre.
11:30 pm--Cornmeal: Missed the show, heard it was amazing and the favourite show of a few of my friends.
Friday, July 20th:
2:00 pm-- Everyone Orchestra: Mediocre. Fun watching a conductor conduct jam musicians. Too hot and tired to enjoy the show a lot.
6:00 pm-- moe.: Fun show. I'm a fan of moe., but not too familiar with earlier work, which they played a lot of. I'd wish for more of their latest albums which I enjoyed a lot, but the show was still fun.
8:00 pm-- String Cheese Incident: Excellent. I preferred the second set over the first by far. Great jams, can't wait to see them three more times in August.
11:30 pm--Trampled by Turtles: Wow. Best TBT show out of the five I've seen. Played a beautiful Peggy-O. We got nice and rowdy, pissed off a few people from stomping too hard, but ultimately got them vibing the show more. Shook hands with the banjo and fiddle players from Cornmeal.
Saturday, July 21st:
2:00 pm-- Keller Williams: Standard Keller show. Nothing special.
2:00 pm--Kaki King: Great acoustic guitar. Didn't stay too long because I couldn't get a good enough look at how she was working her instrument. Beautiful stuff though.
6:00 pm--Gov't Mule: Fun show, too heavy of jams for my liking. Teased Shakedown Street.
8:00 pm--Bob Weir & Ratdog: Excellent. Great sets. Mostly played older stuff (as in late 70's to 80's). Opened with Help on the Way, gave us a Liberty, Lazy River Road, Cassidy, Terrapin, FOTD (I think, as I heard from afar). Encored with Franklin's Tower and U.S. Blues. Franklin's Tower was great, U.S. Blues is a standard encore. I was hoping for something better. Reminded me of Phil Lesh & Friend's "Truckin'" encore last year which left me partially disappointed.
11:30 pm--Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk: Wow. Never listened to them before, glad I got to the show. Some of the funkiest shit I've ever heard. Got the whole crowd moving. Brought up 20 women on stage for their final funk. Definitely going to catch them in the future when they tour.
