Also from the view of the movie executives how is this broad enough to reach movie goers? I was just scared it could turn into another Doors movie.

Interesting.... I used to be a huge doors fan, read a half dozen books and only spotted 3 or 4 errors in the movie:

1 - Ray didn't have the Fender bass keyboard in the beach days
2 - The whole band agreed to sing "higher" on Ed Sullivan
3 - Some emotional outbursts were exaggerated / Some love scenes were exaggerated
4 - Totally dramatization on the Indian and the path he was going but from what I've ready he had claimed to see an Indian guide on more than one occasion.

But overall, it was very true to what I know.

What I meant about saying the Doors movie was that my Dad told me that it flopped. Maybe he was comforting me about the Dead one because I was like jittery little dog scared . Well my opinion on the movie is now not fear over it, just kinda wondering how it could work as anything but a documentary.

What about a GD movie a-la Yellow Submarine. but maybe a little more tastefull storytelling. all the well known GD symbols and characters could be used, dancing bears, skeletons, turtles. an artist could really do whatever they wanted, given the nature of it being drawn. It could be comedy, drama, or just a really trippy cartoon of a show - now that would be sweet, a cartoon of a real show, and you could do all kinds of crazy animation to get the really great "melty" affect we all know and love.

how about a comedic movie/cartoon where Phil gets kidnapped by studio musicians, and the rest of the band has to work together to get him back before their next show. you know the same cheesy shit you see in every movie. But as you all know Jerry was hilarious in real life and so was Bobby, so it'd be perfect. doesnt have to be studio musicians tho , that was just a joke

I saw the Hendrix movie, it was absolute trash. and then i saw it again a year later, its so bad i was just blown away that they dared to actually air it on VH1 more than once. Its awful , the casting, the screenplay, the directing, the musical perfomances, the lip sync and fake guitar playing were just blasphemous! it looked like a film student made it for their final or something. they seriously couldnt have spent more than a few thousand dollars making that movie, and if they did spend more than that, then theres this weeks sign that the apocalypse is upon us!

Indeed. To elaborate on that point a bit - which era would you like see in the movie?

I'd like to see something like "Birth of the Dead", with a film starting around 1964-5 in San Francisco. Some guest appearances by the Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother, Santana, etc. Spend a good time in the Acid Tests. Throw in a good '67 Other One, and I'll be happy.

They could start it with jerry and the boys playing a show in 86 then flash back to the the band first coming together in the early 60's. Have jerry go into the coma. Have flashbacks of the band growing up into the late 60's getting fucked over by mickey's dad. playing woodstock ect. Jerry struggles to re learn how to play the guitar and for the final moments of the movie the triumphant first concert back at henry kaiser auditorium (is that right) playing touch of gray and the crowd going nuts.
