Umm I didnt see another thread about this, sorry if there is one. Well I read the news headline at the bottom of the page about the possible? or is it definite? Dead movie. Im very frightened about this, who could possibly play Jerry or any of the other band members? Im scared that it could turn into Dead mania, I cant imagine the touch of grey recourse. Would this compare? Im scared

If you get over the fact that most movies about rock music are not very good there is nothing to fear. Even if the movie was wildly successful and brought about a new interest in the Grateful Dead it could only lead to the release of more music.

no need to apologize, I was just giving you a starting point on this one. That thread was way before any plans for an actual movie.

my concerns on this, is how do you sum up 30 years of mayhem into a 2-3 hour film. OK, maybe if they just focus on one era - 1965 - 69, for example. or even one show, for that matter. Just to develop each character from the dead in a movie would take a while - if you gave each member 5 minutes, you're already at around 1 hour (including keith, donna, brent, vince, bruce, TC, plus starting members). Now try to develop the character of Jerry in 5 minutes...

Interesting.... I used to be a huge doors fan, read a half dozen books and only spotted 3 or 4 errors in the movie:

1 - Ray didn't have the Fender bass keyboard in the beach days
2 - The whole band agreed to sing "higher" on Ed Sullivan
3 - Some emotional outbursts were exaggerated / Some love scenes were exaggerated
4 - Totally dramatization on the Indian and the path he was going but from what I've ready he had claimed to see an Indian guide on more than one occasion.

But overall, it was very true to what I know.

of course deadhead will find some flaws, just like veterans would find errros in war movies. And i think that well have to get over that fact that not everyone will have charachter development(tc, vince,bruce)

Wouldn't really bother me in the slightest if they made a film about the GD. They know longer exist so there isn't going to be any mania or rush of new fans created by it, no jumped up fan will be taking the tickets I wanted cause there's no gig to go to!

If it attracts plastic fans then so be it, we can all see them coming anyway!! We don't need to shout about it because we know it already, the music is in our soul.

I wouldn't mind if it was done well. I loved Walk the Line and I even enjoyed Ray...though I dislike Jamie Fox... There are always going to be discrepancies because films are always made to entertain people and important things often get exaggerated because of that.

well the dead have such a great and vast history, i'd hate to see things cut out, if theres gonna be a dead movie it needs to be all encompassing say... a video of every concert ever. that'd be good

I wouldnt worry about it. J-Money didnt become too popular after Walk the Line came out. I think since heads are so protective over the Dead, that if you ask a dead expert who would best play the role of any band member, the answer would be no one.
