Viceroy, Trey is rated in the top 100, but regardless - that's one publications opinion (Rolling Stone, fwiw), maybe not your top 100 or his or hers, etc.
And Django & sarraqum, of course you
can compare them. I mean hell, they're both human beings, so right there there's a similarity. They both probably woke up and took a dump first thing in the morning too. My point of not being able to compare them was regarding the fact that it is kind of like comparing a red delicious apple to a granny smith apple (or something like that...). Both apples, and both good in their own sense, but it's an opinion and nothing more at some point of the conversation. But again, being on a Dead site as this is, it's a moot point because Jer's going to (deservedly so) get 99.9% of the vote here.
Again, to me, it's kind of like comparing Jim Brown to Barry Sanders or Jim Thorpe to Bo Jackson or even Martin Luther King Jr. to Mother Teresa and trying to say who's better running back/athlete/humanitarian. Who knows?
I do agree though with the folks that say that Jerry just has that special something, that way of plucking your heart strings and bringing you to the point of tears when he plays/sings. Trey never really had that, not that it's a bad thing, because I think Trey had stuff that Jerry couldn't offer either, but I digress. I think part of Jerry's passion in his singing anyways is due to some of the incredible lyrics that Hunter penned for him too. But he just had a compassion for "the song" that I've never found anywhere else that is truly amazing, and we certainly are all lucky to have found it.
Must suck for all those people who haven't discovered the Dead or Jerry, huh?
