Hey gang! Wonderin' if anyone uses copper picks? I found if you flatin out your tunin a hair it gives a nice bluesy feeling.

sometimes when i can't find a pick and i'm drunk enough i'll play with a coin or this little metal pendant that i've got... always get some wierd sounds out of the guitar when you use an uncommon medium for picking the strings... probably not so great for the strings but i had to play at the time.

any other suggestions for picks?

No, but I often comment that "dammit, my string has gone out of tune again!"

On the topic: I sometimes pick with my banjo index and middle finger copper picks, and the usual thumb pick so I can thump the baseline.

i have only broken a string once ever....

ive seen it happen to people a bunch and just am kinda like "how does that happen"

i dont play very tensely im real loose with my right hand but so is my teacher and hes broke a string at the last 3 shows i saw him play...all on the next to last song of the night???????

Doc - I suspect your "Red Bear" pick is actually made by Tortis. Red Bear Trading is a distributor and I've seen them stamp their name & whatnot on there. Those are fantastic picks.

Strings break for a variety of reasons:
- flailing strumming hand
- hard pick attack
- old
- never stretched well
- acid from fingers (yes, it only takes 4 hours on mine)
- burr on brige
- cut on nut (well, it rhymes)

yes now that you mention it i do remember seeing it say "tortis" pics....

i guess i just have been lucky with the strings then...
i play alot so my strings get bumps above the frets before they even get old and i keep a pretty loose hand and conrolled attack so i guess thats good, never really knew about the oils from the hands though
