I am an art dealer and I got one of my artist's Garcia image on the cover of Elmore Magazine.

Really great article on Jerry. Seems like a good magazine too. Sections about Jerry are written by Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Eric Thompson ( was in a bluegrass band with jerry in 1963)

On a side note, I just saw Eric Thompson a couple weeks ago. He is still turning out great old timey/bluegrass music in the bay area. His band is called the Bluegrass Intentions.

I think it was the book LST that says JG had issues with relationships that stems from his issues with his father's death but specifically how his mother acted afterwards - remarried, shacking up, neglecting her kids, etc. Further on it tells of JG more or less being a "player" while on the road while implying that he was a good hubby while at home. IIRC, the quote was, "being on the road ruined every relationship"

In the magazine article Eric Thompson says "in May of '63 we were the Black Mountain Boys Bluegrass Band, and wore matching shirts. We only toured onece, but played together everyday."

So that was before the Mother McCrees Uptown Jug Champions.

I read Phil's book but don't remember this. What did he say?

Rumor has it that Jerry was a player - all subtle and never on the prowl while Bobby was "the ladies man" hunting down the night's main courses.

I specifically recall when Jerry was terminating his relationship with Menasha, he was hanging out at Phil's house, hooking up with an old flame (I am not sure if it was Koons at this point or not). He writes a note telling Menasha it is over. Then he hands it over to one of the Deads underlings to deliver.

Relationship over, without the nicks or cuts of a conventional blade...

Barlow also mentioned that if anyone showed too much concern about Jerry's health or addiction, Jerry would pretty much shut the door on those relationships.

I imagine this was how Jerry avoided relationship issues he really didn't want to deal with.

Nice cover and looks a good magazine.

There were a few examples over the course of his life that show that he wasn't great at dealing with matters close to the heart, he was at times downright cruel and behaved well out of line on certain things.

I'm sure Jerry played away from home and took advantage of the rock star lifestyle but I don't think he did it too much. I think he was quite shy and hated a lot of the attention he got. He would duck out of parties and stuff. No doubt his approach was a more subtle one.

Also has to be said that for the last 20 years or so of his life, large chunks of his time were taken with by being a serious junkie. I think Rock Scully said that for large periods of time you didn't need anything else but the heroin, including woman.

I dont doubt it because I do know first hand about his herion addiction. I too have done the "troll" thing myself. Damn addiction is awful.

Yep, Rock was a friend of a friend and I spent a bunch of time on his couch. Don't get me wrong, Rock is no saint. I'm just saying that specific portion of his life's story is true.
