I don’t know if I’ll be selling my own pickups. However, I finally got to a point where there was time to wind my own. I wanted to dig in deep to pickup design/winding so I have the freedom to make a wide variety of recipes. There’s so much involved with magnet type, wire selection, coil building, wire tension, pole material, potting etc.

I have tons of musician friends and I’ll definitely be asking if they’ll test drive my pickups to provide unbiased, objective feedback. My goal is to produce the absolute best instrument/amps I can. The Super 2 pickup just works in my guitars. 25.5” scale length with DADDARIO nickel 11’s. I’ve tried so many pickups, and the Super 2 worked. Plus, the high output makes DPDT on/on/on series, coil cut, parallel wiring more practical.

My goal with winding is to reach a point where I’m able to modify the frequency response of my instruments. You know, there could be a magic combination I’m not aware of and I intend to find “that sound”.

IF I can produce pickups that exceed name brand quality then I would sell pickups. I’m far from that point, tho.

Here are two sets I made. One set is vintage spec PAF. My buddy is installing those in a Les Paul. He’ll provide quality feedback. The second set is three high output ceramic pickups for my personal instrument. They are wound to specs of Super Distortion bridge, super 2 middle and slight underwound super 2 neck. The advantage in these pickups is scatter wind rather than machine wound. C8 magnets and 42AWG enamel single build. I just received a new spool of 43AWG formvar which gives advance of higher wind count but benefits of heavy formvar coating. Heavy formvar is used in vintage Strat pickups. The heavy build formvar helps with capacitance and coupling which both cause loss in high end frequencies. If I’m 100% confident in the pickup construction/performance then I’ll make videos and offer to make sets if someone is interested. I’ll follow the SeymourDuncan model of pickups being refundable within 30 days if they do not perform to players liking. Again, not at that point.
