It's a cool thing that if you're in a band that is Dead oriented the options are still wide open for other music by other bands. The Band, Little Feat, Dylan of course, ABB, Beatles, Stones. But I also did some Elvis Costello like winterland, Joe Jackson, Rockpile, Tom Waits, Los Lobos. It's all over the map and it kind of comes down to a freedom to play what you like, there's no stylistic trap. Peppers would be cool, Down by the River always got a jam going. And then of course your own songs, which when everyone contributes a part, is agreeable 100% of the time to everyone in the band.

How bout I've seen all good people by yes, pretty acoustic part that rocks out in the end. It's hard to get into Jon Anderson's vocal range though. Fish (Schindleria Praematurus) is a cool instrumental yes did on fragile.

Believe it or not there is more no-dead music out there than dead music. Some of it is amazing stuff.

Of course we all love the dead, but don't limit yourself and always keep looking for new and interesting stuff. The go back to the dead and you'll see and hear new things it in and enjoy it even more.

What I like to do is to listen to assorted music of all types on the radio, CD's, et., and I try to imagine what the Dead or Jerry Garcia Band (JGB) might do with it. I love all the classic dead, but it was always the surprises that floored me - like when they tucked La Bamba into Good Lovin', or Werewolves, or JGB doing Shining Star and Wonderful
World. I also love Bobby's version of Easy to Slip. There is so much cool music out there of all types that can be adapted to the Grateful Dead-ish sort of approach. Has anybody seen the video of Jerry doing "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"? Great tune.

I've been learning alot of classical lately... A couple songs I've been playing alot lately are Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles and The Inlaw Josie Wales by phish, both are real good acoustic tunes

if i remember correctly inlaw josie wales is intensely complicated, but good job with it
