I'm wondering if anyone else has the issue I have had with multiple guitars with multiple types of pickups (mostly strat and tele style pickups) where the suggested pickup height for these pickups seems to be way off for balancing the strings out volume wise from string to string. I end up with volume issues on mostly the low E string. To make a long story short, with my Jerry inspired amps (SMS with a Koch ATR 4502 and Fender Deluxe Reverb, as well as a Mesa Fillmore 25, all with JBL E or K 120, if I set a stock strat or tele pickup height (3/32 on low e with last fret fretted and 1/16 on the high e with last fret fretted) my low E, and to a lesser extent the A and sometimes d, but not usually the D as much, end up non existent in a band setting while the 3 high strings G,B, and E are a good mix. This has been happening for years and I just thought I'ld throw it out there. I have been fixing the issue by setting the height on the low e to 3/32 and dropping the high e height until balanced. It is also hard to tell until I play in a band setting, you can't really notice if you are playing alone. I have had several DiMarzio Super 2 equipped guitars, too, and would be able to balance those a little easier, but similar issue. Just my observations here, if this has happened to you, you are not alone!
Personally, I trust my ears more than suggested measurements. I’m more interested in how it plays, and how it sounds, than in any fractional measurement.
