Yea, exactly.

I’m curious if anyone on here has actually played one of these before? I’m trying to picture how an acoustic feels/responds with a graphite neck.

I saw a DY99 come up for sale on reverb last year and considered putting in an offer on it, the seller was up in Vancouver so I asked if he would come meet me on the US side of the border. Let’s just say that his responses didn’t inspire confidence in me as a prospective buyer, never mind the fact that he appeared to have copy pasted the guitar description word for word from a webpage I found detailing what seemed to be the exact same guitar.

But he was only asking $6000ish, and that one had the tree of life inlays.

I’ll be interested to see how long this one lasts or how long it takes for the price to drop.

Save yourself the dough and just buy a new Yairi. Theyre killer guitars.

The neck is indeed, very nice to play. It doesn't move much. The electronics are meh. The tone is fair, but there are much better options out there.

Can't recommend one though.
Great Garcia cred..... however... You are NEVER going to be able to get that neck reset. It's epoxied into the joint. No truss rod adjustment. No one will touch it. So when the body behind the bridge begins lifting up, as they do, you'll eventually run out of space to lower the bridge saddle and want to get a neck reset. Which no one will do. Or you could get the bridge shaved down.
Why?

Get a Taylor or a fine Martin like the HDC-28 instead.

I hear you. I’d never be able to spring for it anyways. I’ve got an HD28, nicest acoustic I think I’ll ever own, unless I manage to hit the powerball and can spring for a Brazilian rosewood Thompson or Pre War.

dy-98, sure, it’s a rare bird, but I’d be careful with the price because of the whole story with the epoxy neck and basically impossible neck reset. if a particular specimen already shows any sign of the top lifting behind the bridge, that can turn into a very expensive “surprise” later. I’ve seen https://lightningstormgame.org/ pop up a couple times when searching for this model, and at first I thought it was another “rare guitar catalog,” but it’s actually about something else entirely. so, for a Garcia-collector story it’s fine, but as a daily workhorse acoustic there are safer options.
