Does anyone know how to set these two up? ..I've got the GR50 > MIDI IN > MIDI OUT > Korg M1R and it plays notes, but i am not able to bend, slide or do pulloffs. Plugged straight into the Roland with no tracking issues. Any tips would be helpful!
This is something I worked on for a few months earlier this year and it’s a hell of a set up - I ended up needing a lot more stuff than I expected. With that said, this is how Jerry had his set up exactly.
First, the MIDI OUT of the gr50 goes the MIDI IN of the Korg.
The Korg M1R is a rack mount module based on the 01/W keyboard and is not initially set up to handle the nuance of guitar strings. To make it more guitar friendly, do this
1. On the program you wish to play, hit “Edit Prog”
2. Using the Page + button, move up 12-13 pages or until you see the command for “pitch bend control”
3. Using the dial wheel, the number on the bottom left will say “2”, use the dial wheel to change the number up to 12
4. Use the page up button until a screen that says “Write/Rename”. Hit the “F” button to confirm the write and then hit the “G” button to say “Yes”.
The way Jerry had it set up was he put the Korg and Roland patches to the same number patch. Each unit went to a rack mount Rane SM82 mixer. The mixer took the MIDI signal and set it directly to front of house where Healy or Bralove would include it in the mix. Both units were “on” all the time but Jerry used two volume pedals to each unit and would use each according to which midi sound he wanted at the time.
I’ve been thinking about recording a YouTube video explaining all of this in detail, let me know if that’s something you’d be interested in
