Hey Sean or anyone else who’s tried pairing a Surfybear with the CTP- how’d you like it? Did he sound like a big upgrade I reverb quality?

I feel we're at the point of diminishing returns now. But I'm open to the possibility others' ears are better than mine or your standards more exacting. Myself, my Classic Pre with JG Mods does all I ask of it. And this being said, I'm using my little Quilter SuperBlock US the most these days anyway.

It really is.

Interestingly, after using mine for over a year on the '65 setting exclusively, I decided my Strat-type guitar needed a bit more mids/balls to its tone and switched to the '57 setting. I've come to love it. The key for me, in the '57 setting, is to set the Superlock's gain extremely low and crank up the volume to make up the difference. This is because even a very small increase in the gain in the '57 mode adds unwanted overdrive/distortion (not that I don't dig that sometimes but I'd prefer to get it from my pedals).

And while I’m here and we’re on this topic, I took the top panel off out of curiosity to look inside when it arrived. This amp is a goddamn work of art, I’ve never seen amp guts (if that’s the best term?) so clean and organized.

I use the boogie when our band does a lot of 76-77 stuff at gigs. And at home I’ll run them in stereo to get a fuller sound.

The differences between the SMS CTP and the Spectrum are quality of components and reverb- CTP is digital, Spectrum has an actual three spring tank, with dwell and level controls. Also size, Spectrum takes up 2x the rack space.
