I know nothing sounds like a JBL, but the guy that i used to get my reconed E120's from recently passed away. I've heard that the Beyma speakers are pretty good. Has anyone used these speakers before? What do you think?

If you use the search function, you should find quite a bit on them here as we've discussed them before. My take: yes if weight is not a concern; no if it is.

The specs are surprisingly far from an E120 and I think you can still find E's in good shape for the same price or less. So, IMHO, you really need to want a new production speaker for them to make sense.

I'll admit that I don't care much anymore about identical specs. These days, there are so many options available and so much creativity among the builders that I'm comfortable focusing more on the ultimate sound/tone.

Myself, I've kept my D and K. But I sold my E a couple of years back and replaced it with a Celestion Neo Copperback. The Copperback's closer in tone, to my ears, to an EV than a JBL. But I just can't deal with 18 1/2 lb. speakers any more! :o

Oh, I get that! But if you are going to pay the price and deal with the weight, the real JBL makes more sense to me. Now if there was a new lightweight neo version of the 120 series, I could definitely see paying a little extra for that.

So true. We should start a petition! :-)

He definitely gets it as you can see in videos like this one below.

Thanks so much, Slewfoot2000 — I really appreciate the link. Dan definitely seems to know his stuff, and those speakers look solid. The video was great too; it’s always reassuring to see someone who actually understands what makes those classic JBLs special. I might reach out to him and see what he’s got that could fill the E120 void. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
