the digital age has really made copywriting obsolete. They couldnt stop electronic companies from removing the "record" button from cassette players, and they certainly cant keep anyone from purchasing burning drives. its our right in a free country to purchase those products. they can make loopy laws to try and subdue file sharing, but marijuana is illegal and that doesnt stop even the cops from smoking, or even nay i say downloading music illegaly.
you gotta take in consideration that the artist is already making more money than the average american. In profits from live shows, album sales, and the original contract they signed, while enjoying press publicity and all the other perks that are "handed down" to idividuals enjoying "celebrity standards". Much ,much ,more money than the average Tom, Dick or Jane, and for doing something that really isnt even "work" in its true sense.
so if we all cant be punished what is the morality behind filing lawsuits against individuals, when OBVIOUSLY in the long run file sharing will never be controlled. these lawsuits wont continue forever, right now its all about the big easy money grab.
If you write good music people will buy it and see you at the show. If your the artist and your getting stiffed by your record company(every single artist is) then you only have yourself to blame by signing a bunk peice of paper. there should be a coalition of artists united against the record compaines who are the real corporate evil behind this crap.
instead of standing up for themselves, they in turn place the blame on their own fans - bad p.r. simple human psycology suggests that individuals placed in the spotlight - in any social situation, be it large or small, has an after affect on the actions and decisions that person makes. look at the NBA or NFL, need i say more?...

I truly beleive that both parties are correct. the latter only in the sense that these laws are written and recorded.
how could these laws be enforced? they simply cant be and wont be. You see in louisiana its illegal to carry an aligator over your shoulder after 1;00pm on a sunday. thats all this is.....that law might have held up in a time when it was applicable, but this is a different world.
i hardly think all you Heads are gonna jump up with $25 in hand for every sbd in your collection, or for that matter stop using torrents.
