I wonder what the record is for most Grateful Dead shows and who holds it?

I mean just proper fans, not someone connected to the music indust' or the band itself.

It's probably something we'd never find out but would be interesting to know.

I read somewhere that Bill Walton has been to like 600 or so shows over the years. Though there is probably some crazy hippie who can top that somewhere. Who knows?

I probably have about 400+ if you include Garcia Band. I know guys with way more than me. Quite a few who have died very young.

Asking a deadhead the number of shows attended is like asking a fisherman the biggest fish he ever caught. That said i don't think # of shows means too much, as i have friends who have been into the dead since the early 70's and only saw 50 or so shows. I had single years were i saw more. That dude Jerry was at like all the shows...lol

Now don't laugh but my father only went to one show. But he does know some one who went to like 282 or so. He (the fiend) even ended up at Bear's farm once, now that must have been a trip.

I may have the biggest ratio of number of GD shows to number of JGB shows: 155:3

So, you're implying we're all liars? :-)

I probably caught over 300 shows and I know people who saw way less and way more. I have stories (I'm writing a book about the experiences) of travelling in Europe and seeing the shows (in '89 or '90 or whatever year), trying to catch every show in a year (in '85 I saw them all and then got shut out of New Year's!) and meeting folks (Bill Walton, Bill Graham, Mike Lookinland, etc). I have tons of ticket stubs, and would have had a lot more if people didn't try to teach me the Two-for-Three scam. I agree that it's subjective and that I also knew people who saw shows in the '70's but only a total of 25. I wish I would have seen shows earlier, but wasn't turned on to it until it was supposed to happen. I am glad about what I did get to see.

I stopped counting after 100....I kow people who saw there 200th in 85.....so, I'm sure there's some folks out there who've prolly got well over 500. I doubt anyone who saw that many could really remember accurately just how many they saw. :D

.
of course not..as long as you don't say you sold acid to Bobby Brady... I Always thought that was a great title for a dead tour memoir. "I Sold Acid to Bobby Brady.. and misc. tales". A book of collected "tour" stories would be interesting as everyones experiences and motivations were so different. Funny 85 was a big year for me 2 we prolly know or knew (as quite a few have passed away) lots of the same people.

my dad went to around 50, not many, but the shows he went to were so huge, he was at like at least 5 dicks picks, he was at the second gd movie, without a net, and so many good ones that i always listen to. damn he was a lucky one, i was only there in spirit.
