heavy topic dudes. faith is hard to describe, but you can see it manifest in the world. believing in a higher power that creates and sustains the seemingly chaotic order of the universe if only just to keep it expanding forever is the basic presmise of religion/god/whatever word you want to use to label the idea. the underlying principle is basically the golden rule, treat other people like you want to be treated, be righteous without being an a-hole.

i find christianity nice and all and i used to go to church with my mom but i think that some people get really hung up on all the symbols as they are written in old english with an ancicnet perspective... of course the lessons are timeless but can't forget the grain of salt.

A point about Cats Under The Stars. Yes there were a lot of religious songs on that album that Jerry and Hunter wrote. As we all know Hunter wrote the words and would give them to Jerry and he'd make a song out of them with a tweak of the wording here and there. If Jerry wasn't happy or comfortable with the lyrics given to him he wouldn't have used them. He binned the song What You'll Raise because he thought the lyrics contained many gambling metaphors.

The 2012 reference is all about the Mayan calender and it's ending in 2012. To be more specific, the Mayan's ability to track time is/was bewtter than ours. They see time as cycles with subdivisons. The largest cycle is 5000 some odd years and will end on 12/21/2012. there is a lot written about it and there's been svereal good shows on TV that focus on the subject. Their calender essentially sees floods coming that will end one cycle and mark the beginning of the next.

I'm planning on quitting work in a year or so and spending all my money before the whole sheethouse goes up in flames.

2012 is big for Terrence because there is a spike in his novelty graph, not because of the Mayan thing. More people are interested in Mayans than McKenna though.

JS, I don't play guitar, but I have a lot of 8-tracks I'd sell on the cheap! And a couple of outdated keyboards too! As for the extra money and any help, I can handle that part on my own....

Of interest is that, not only is the Mayan thing coming up, there's been an analysis of the I-Ching, Koran, Bible and some other works that also "point" to this time and specific date, albeit somewhat interpretive.

On top of that, it is true that there's going to be an as yet to be seen alignment of specific planets on that day, the sun is going to be at it's "maximum" in term of solar storm cycles (which spike and fall in 11year cycles) and we've all heard about global warming.

There are scientists/astrologers that posit that the earth may cross a "solar equator" with regards to this alignment of planets and they hypothosize that the earth's magnetic poles could abruptly shift in a matter of hours (18-36), perhaps putting the new poles in Europe and Australia for example. Can you imagine the havoc/destruction that would happen if that goes down?! It may be something that occurs ever 5000 some years...

And if that's not enough for ya, that's the date on the X-Files' version of the end.

Back around 2003-2004, I remember hearing the same crap about the world ending and did a lot of research on it. There was a book titled 5/5/2005, with hundreds of pages of data on it, and proofs, etc. The basic idea was that the magnetic poles of the earth would shift on 5/5/2005, because, again, all the planets were aligning for the first time in 5000 years or so, and they aligned in a way that it could only be seen through a special tunnel discovered in the Pyramids of Cairo. They had proof that it's happened every 5000-6000 years or so, since the beginning of time, and that our time is near.

I was all ready for the axis-shift on that date, but it never happened, and I had to go to work the next day. Bummer!

Dunno - interesting that the stories match so closely, though, with just the date change. Who knows, maybe this time I'll get a day off from work.
