When it doesn't fit anywhere else

About an hour ago I found out that one of my friends from home was found dead this morning by overdose. I can't stop crying, why did he die and not me? I feel so disillusioned and lost...he was so much nicer and better than I ever was...somebody please respond, I don't even care what you say...

It's difficult if not impossible to discern why things happen in this world.

If your friend was as nice as you state seek solice in the knowledge that he/she would want you to keep moving forward and not have their misfortune be compounded by your pain and suffering. Your sense of loss is normal and the pain you feel is normal. Let those feelings move through you and not become a part of you.

Please seek out help if only someone close to you whom you respect to talk to and help sort this out.

Well put, Bill.

I am sorry for your loss, Grinner. I had a friend of mine with a mental illness committ suicide a few years back, and I wondered the same thing. Nicest kid in the world, never did anybody wrong, but just couldn't catch a break in his own head. I understand that this is different from the way your friend passed, but the outcome is the same. It's never easy to lose someone you love, but the best thing you can do is grieve properly as Bill said, remember and reflect on the times (both good and bad are healthy, I believe) you had with him, know that you'll be reunited again someday (I hope), and maybe give tribute to his life in some way. Also - be there for his other friends that you may know, and definitely be there for his family, even if you don't know them all that well. Let them know who you are and why you were friends with him. Ask them if there's anything you can do to help in this hard time, and be strong. It's a hard time for all that knew him, but if you all stick together, it'll not only make it easier, but maybe bring you closer together. And that's probably something he would've wanted.

And I believe you play music, right? Well, right there is a great way to express how you are feeling and maybe make sense of it all, at least on some level.

God bless.

I found my aunt in the same way from a heroine overdose. Time heals, friend. That's about all I can say. Sorry for your loss.

"Why him and not me" is an emotional question with only a logical answer.

My deepest sympathies for you and for him and his family.

Remember that you have today and don't lose sight of the gift of today.

Do something special for your friend in his memory and don't be a stranger to his parents and siblings.

That wasn't an easy topic to respond to...thank yall for having the courage to reach out. I am considerably more at peace than I was a few days ago; thank you, put Lee Stinson in your prayers for me.
