i thought this was a grateful dead forum. And i think fellow heads should be able to discuss anything. And if you dont like the topic than dont read it, and if the topic make you wanna read it any way than i guess it was a good post.

well, so far users haven't been lighting it up on the Phish board. From where I sit it looks like two non-playing but informative threads and one "pick your side thread". I know it's early, but if it continues that way then I would say we didn't really need that one.

This long winded post is going to cover both the DSO topic and the Phish Topic. I probably should have said something sooner, and I hope what I am about to say doesn't offend anyone.

First, asking for new forums by posting to the site is not the way to do it. The appropriate way is to send me an email so I can deny you in private by choice or procrastination!!

On DSO:

A long, long time ago, DSO used this site to learn songs. Hoepfully, some time in the future, there will be more bands like them that have used this site to help them, or maybe even met here. (and give me free tickets). If you want to talk DSO, go to DSO:

http://www.dsoforums.net/forum/

Of course, on the DSO forums, when they mention TABS, they say to go here or jdarks. And there is a reason for that: Every Forums should do one thing right, and this site makes an attempt to do the Grateful Dead music talk thing right.

On Phish:

First, I really have no interest in this site being anything but a Grateful Dead site. Creating a forum does not mean at all that we are trying to change the direction of the site at all, meaning, putting up a Phish forum doesn't mean I want to be a Phish site, not even close. I honestly believed that there would be some conversation, then we'd have moved on.

The original intent of this forum was to talk about the songs of the grateful dead, and open up the conversations that Ed was privately having regarding the quality (or lack there of) of the tabs on this site. I personally like where it has gone for the most part, and I am sorry if I am giving off a vibe that I think that I realistically could do anything more than being a Grateful Dead site, because I don't want to.

I personally believe strongly that the best forums are the most vertical forums, and its hard enough to be a Grateful Dead Forum let alone anything more than that. For that reason (and please don't get offended), I think the best advice given in the phish forum is go to strangedesign and talk about it there, or whereever people are talking about them. If those places are wastelands, there may be a reason for it. rukind was once a wasteland too, and over time, with some amazing conversation about the Grateful Dead, it attracted enough people to make a pretty constant conversation.

However, it would be crazy to not acknowledge that there are other bands that we are interested in. I for one have learned a great deal about some bands that I would have never been exposed to if it weren't for people talking about them on this site. That is the spirit of the other bands forums, which was really an organizational thing more than what is turning into an April Fools joke gone bad (and don't think this has made my list of potential gags next year).

I think Trey missing 10K lakes would have been something that made the News site, and I think people would be interested in hearing about festivals and who's going, who's playing, and how it went. I have to imagine that there is a place on the internet where there are lots of people checking in to find out exactly why Trey is not going to play, and its not this site, nor do I want it to be this site. I'd hope thats where strangedesign could come in and help.

The people here are hacks (me) to experts (the rest of you) on the grateful dead, but we all have on opinion. I don't think its fair to use (the experts) brains to get a musical opinion about Phish, there are phishlings somewhere out on the internet engaged in that conversation.

So, no, there isn't going to be a DSO forums and hopefully the Phish forums will die down now that the opinions have been shared, and an appropriate venue for further discussion has been found.

Thanks, and sorry again if I offended anyone, or gave off a vibe that we are anything more than a grateful dead site. No more fourm requests by posting - I am going to consider them spam.

Does this mean that we should not use the phish-part of the
forum? If we are asked not to use it you might as well delete
it, IMHO.
