DSO is a cover band ... they are GREAT ... but everything they do has been done before by the guys who are responsible for the existence of this site and 100's of others .... you want to talk ... talk about the real deal ... DSO does rock , I think Rob Eaton is one of the most talented people I have seen play in the past 10 years ... but they are still a COVER BAND >>> A TRIBUTE BAND >>>>> think about it .... JIM YOU BETTER NOT !!!!!

no offense lostsailor but thats kinda dumb. I mean yes this is a Grateful Dead forum but they (DSO) are still out there doin their thing and if someone wants to post about them often it would only be appropriate to have a forum for them. Sure there are forums at their site but I dont use them. If there were forums here for them I would certainly join in the conversations.

Ahh...the magic of forums! :)

My theory behind creating forums is that there is a lot of discussion involving a particular topic and, to keep things neat & tidy, we forum-ize it. Rather than clutter up Everything Else with 50 posts on Phish, we created a Phish forum. I can't imagine there's a lot of people who want to talk so specifically about DSO that we need to create a specific forum for it. I would think DSO talk goes into Everything Else (or whatever is appropriate).

However, I am always keen to bow down to public opinion. :) If the masses really want a DSO forum, I can create it. But then that leads to a, 'let's create a Gibson SG forum', or'let's create an I-Hate-Vince forum', etc. etc. Eventually the sub-classification of everything gets too chaotic.

I shall monitor this thread to see if the clamoring approaches deafening levels. :)

Let's pull it back from this brink and return the site to being just for Grateful Dead discussion if that's going to happen. Maybe its "dumb", but I for one will probably begin to gravitate away from this site at the point where DSO or any tribute band (of which there are several that would be just as deserving) gets their own discussion board on a site dedicated to the Grateful Dead.

I love Phish and I also greatly appreciate DSO and am good friends with some of them, but I would rather we just remove the Phish folder than to have its existance exploited as a precedent to justify a tribute band folder. Maybe the Phish phanatics should go post at strangedesign or wherever, and the DSO diehard fans can post at the DSO site forum.

TS if the Phish forum were removed then ok. But as it stands if Phish gets a forum on a Grateful Dead site and DSO, pretty much the leader of all Grateful Dead cover bands, doesnt then that just doesnt seem right. I, for one, didnt think the Phish idea was the greatest. In fact alot of the topics being brought up lately just dont belong here. But hey do what you will. Just opinionatin

+1 come on guys. This is a GD site for GD inspired musicians. If this site goes in crazy directions and pulls in crazy cats with their crazy irrelevant posts to the forums origins I won't be around much...

i would agree too....take phish down, i think dso is closer to dead disscussion then phish, so get rid of the phish crap and lets talk about the dead.

You know what I just realized? This place is just fine as it is. So don't change anything. It's been going this long as is, so something's gotta be right.

I don't think we need to add any forums. The limited Phish, DSO, Railroad Earth, etc. topics that do come up can be addressed in "Everything Else" because they don't happen all that often, and I think that's just fine. This forum has always been about talking about what you want, and it never gets out of hand, so let it be.

a conversation about what? That they just copied a really great show .... see I am a musician, have been for a long long time ... but a very humble one... you know why there isn't a forum talking about me? Cause I play in COVER BANDS ... writing hasn't ever completely worked out for me ... lets talk about the real deal, THE GRATEFUL DEAD .. but if you like the cover bands ... I do as well ... check out CUbenis out of San Diego, a couple of really good players in that band

There's no vinyl forum on the leather website!
