Yeah, Jerry was a great banjo player. One of the instruments he started playing earlier in his career.

I wish Old and In the Way would have had a longer time together. They didn't even get out there till two years after the band had already broken up, thats when self titled came out I beleive.

I am a Old and In the Way freak, my guitar player and I play alot of there stuff, from the great pretender to midnight moonlight.

i like his banjo more than guitar...religious jerry freaks please dont burn my house down or anything...im more of a folkie bluegrass head to begin with but, i like his banjo picking better than his guitar playing.

Don't forget Jerry mastered the 5-string Banjo long before he mastered the guitar.

He actually said around the time of Old And In The Way that he didn't think his Banjo playing was that good and that he had hardly played since the early 60's. So imagine how good he was in his Banjo playing prime.

Yeah, In the book Garcia he talks about how he left California and went to tennesee and all those great bluegrass city's and states meeting people and picking with em.

I agree with IamDocWatson I love bluegrass so much, from bill monroe to bela fleck its great.

I dont get me wrong I love jerry with the grateful dead but just think how great he could have been in a bluegrass band that made it, If only Old and In the Way could have stayed together for maybe like 4 more years. Just think of what could have came out of it.
