Well i listen to about 3.5 hours of dead a day, and the past week the jams have not been working for me. My dad told me it happens to him so he takes a break from it. Well does this happen to any of you? And if so which bands do you have to fill the void? I have other bands but not enough material that they can be a full time thing. Thanks

Yes-- happens to me from time to time.

Usually I listen to Bob Marley, ABB, or Floyd to fill the gap.

The best thing I do is focus on different eras. Usually I dig 73-79 but when I get burnt out I cut-over to some sick 60s or mature sounding 80s!

same here, i'll usually check out different eras. but for when i need a Dead break, i head back into the early Pink Floyd, some Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, or some Piper at the Gates. but i can only stay away from the dead for a day or 2 before i start craving it again

Oh Ed I totally agree. But considering my bands I can't veer from the GD or I'd lose inspiration and my playing would be, well, too repetitive!

Here are other artists who I favor:
Miles Davis
John Coltrane
Johnny Cash
Bob Dylan
Phish
Parliament
Beatles
Led Zep
Metallica
Warren Zevon
Green Day
Rolling Stones
BB King
Albert King
Bobby 'blue' Bland
ZZ Top

The list goes on and on and on...

When I tire of jamming I usually listen to NRPS or Bob Dylan. P.S. I just bought Bob Dylan's Pat Gerrett & Billy The Kid soundtrack last week and I can't get enough of it. I listened to is five times yesterday! Does anyone else get like this, were they keep repeating the same album over and over?

I do need to get away from the Dead from time to time just to stay fresh. To scratch my jam itch I listen to Moe. and Widespread Panic. I've recently discovered Carl Denson, he's really good. I like his grooves. If I'm all jammed out I go to Ryan Adams, Josh Ritter, Jay Faraar, recently Amos Lee, Guster, and Bob Dylan is always a good go-to.....
