thats what i thot but i wasnt sure if they did it again in baltimore, i wonder why they just decided to do it then and on that date. i know why they did it in baltimore, but why then?

I seem to remember it had something to do with a cylinder of gas known as N2O. Towards the end of the Raven, Phil can be heard saying "more gas, more gas".

Not done again, but Phil did do something somewhat similar the night before in Hartford.

This is not about Raven space, but reminded me of something I heard a long time ago but don't know who it was or the date.
I think it was Ken Kesey doing spoken word on stage during a GD jam. I only heard it once and that was at least 15 years ago. I dont know the date and would love to listen to it. If anyone has more info on this I would be.........grateful. Thanks.

The Raven Space was on a Grateful Dead Hour I taped not too long ago. I was quite bizzare and funny at the same time.

I think it was some sort of tribute to Edgar Allen Poe, who penned "The Raven" (i.e. - anniversary of his b-day or d-day)

I was at this show...took Amtrack from philly to baltimore for this show....I love Edgar Allen Poe-so I had to see "my" band on Poe's birthday in his home city...THERE was something cosmic about it!!!
I loved this show so much that when I put on a outdoor show for my 40th b-day in 2005, I made sure Splintered Sunlight played this show!!
Being the show was put on at Halloween...WE did them one better and actually read the entire poem "The Raven" instead of Phil's NO2 inspired version...BUT YA GOTTA LOVE THIS EARLY 80'S GEM!!

Wasn't the Raven Space, with Phil saying "Nevermoooooooore...or was it...EVERmoooooor?" done in Pittsburgh? Maybe my tape is labeled incorrectly...I used to play that space just for the giggle value. Advise someone...

Andrew.shea...not in pittsburgh---that is for sure. I really don't think there was ever a real noteworthy space done in pittsburgh for that matter.I'd think your tape is mislabeled.

The early eighties had the only drum/spaces that I really listen to. I'll admit most get left off of the cd so I can fit the whole show on two discs. However the early eighties drum/spaces are really strange and good sometimes. 82 had the raven space and in hartford earlier that week the Phil earthquake space. When ever I think of what do the Grateful Dead sound like. For me I think about 79-82 That is the sound that I realate to being the grateful dead.[/i]
