D'Addario string guide from bright to mellow:

Can't really ask for much more than D'Addario in quality. Plus they are in every music store. I'd say the same about Ernie Ball and GHS.

Vinci may be fine and it may be what Jerry used 25 years ago but they went out of business for a while too so I'm not sure it's the same.

If you want the expensive and high end, there is always Thomastik, which makes a highly regarded flatwound. But if you are going with a roundwound, I'm just not thinking that Thomastik is going to make a better string than D'Addario, Ernie Ball or GHS.
