Got a beautiful ALembic further BUT the sound is not so good. Crisp on the low notes but buzzes on decay (action is high) High notes sound thin and clipped. wish it sounded better! any ideas???

I've got five Alembics with Skylark electronics, so the basic controls are the same as the Further.

1. Do you have the bright switch engaged on the pickup your playing?

2. Where is your filter set? It really sounds like it's turned up. I used to have my Alembics set like my Les Pauls...volume and tone at 10. Wasn't long before I realized that I really needed to back down on the filters in order to get the sound I was looking for. Otherwise it was very thin and trebly.

...Im not sure how much difference it would make in regards to your specific concerns (sounds like an electronics issue), but you may wanna try backing your picking hand toward the bridge some, on the front edge of the bridge pickup or between that and the middle pickup is where I find the most "Jerry-like" spot.

The tone filters are about half way...action is set high, notice the buzz and clipping on the high notes.....

Alembic makes beautiful guitars, no doubt about it. However the Alembic Electronics were never that popular with guitar players. Bass Players DID like Alembic Basses and they were/are popular. The Irwin guitars were Alembic like, with conventional pickups, (humbuckers and single coil strat like pickups). Almost no big time guitar players played Alembic Guitars, while many played Strats and Les Pauls. Apparently the Alembic electronics did not appeal to many guitar players, not sure why, just apparently "is".

When you say that the high notes sound "clipped" do you mean they don't sustain? If your action is high and the notes are buzzing or don't sustain the only think I can think of is one or more frets that aren't level. If the neck doesn't need adjusting and the frets are all okay, I can't think of a reason for the trouble you're having.

Guitarists have definitely jumped on the bandwagon over the years. If you talk to Alembic, they say sales are roughly 50/50 between guitar and bass. What I've found is that the Alembic electronics can be finicky with certain drive pedals, so finding the ones that work best can be challenging, but worth the effort. I only play out with one of my Alembics (though I have a backup on the way) and it's the only guitar I use.
