From my understanding to be true HD it would of had to been filmed in HD so I guess it's too late for that.

I honestly have no idea how it works but I mean the Last Waltz was released on Blu Ray as well as other pre-HD movies, so how do you explain that?

Not necessarily so, esp if the original print has degraded.

"Old films" are not HD quality but can be upgraded to 1080. This is done by filing in pixels using software. An upscaling DVD player does the same thing. The picture will look much better than the original but not near as good as something shot with an HD camera. If you have an HDTV watch the nature channel (they use HD cameras) and compare it to an older movie shown on an HD channel and you will see the diff.

How about they just release the footage from 8/27/72 and I wouldn't care if it's in HD or not. I love video releases so I hope a new one comes sooner rather than later. They have to have an abundance of good late 80's shows and 90 shows to release.

Actually I'd love some more stuff from the 70s and (be still
my gentle heart) the 60s. The experience isn't really about the
visuals, but I love getting the sound in 5.1 surround.
