I was 21, at Full Sail (audio school in Orlando) going to school, & had just the previous month seen what turned out to be the last shows ever for him... the run of shows at Deer Creek through Chicago... they were self-prescribed therapy because my step-dad died early 95, my sister was killed in the OKC bombing just a few months later in April, so even before Jerry died & my life was upside down, feeling suicidal, didn't know if I could finish the hectic 40 hr/week schooling, etc... Jerry probably saved my life or at least gave me sanity, cuz I REALLY let loose & blasted out the fog in my mind, had folks at the shows help me through the funky parts of trips when it got heavy. Even with the "shittyness" of Deer Creek, St. Louis porch collapse, I still came back from 4th July break a recharged, changed & improved person. Then that fateful day I walked into 9am class, & a classmate said he heard it on news. It was like that flood of shit came back over me that GD helped destroy, & it took everything I had to make it through that month. Then my jetski got stolen, cat ran away, & girlfriend left me & went back to Arkansas where I'm from (but I live in NW now). Also, in early April before the bombing, I got arrested for stupid traffic violation cuz I thought a student didn't need license in new state & also had expired tags & was doing 6mph over, so they arrested me. My court date was the day of my sisters funeral, & I couldn't be there. It was brutal. However, when I explained this to the judge she dropped all charges. But yeah, not a good year overall.
