I've been dicking around with my (fairly) new TruTron 3x, trying to get what I consider a solid "late-80's" sound, and I think I've managed to get pretty close. The "tweak" is that I've opened up the pedal and cranked the internal envelope time response trimmer all-the-way clockwise...
(Note: I prefer to use the 'humbucker' setting of the middle pickup for the TruTron ~ It requires a more delicate touch to not over-quack the pedal, which just sounds better to my ears.)
knob settings: MU 5.5 ... PEAK 2 ...
