Hello All, I'm back again confused and looking for some help. I another thread I mentioned my brother is working on a build for me. His first one. I asked about the SDS pup and a couple of other things. Well, it looks like odds are it's going to be a playable instrument as opposed to being a wall hanger and it's almost time to wire it up. We are following Waldos wiring diagram for Tiger and are trying to figure out what the blend pot is for. 500k/250k. StewMac said they make no such thing but he came across Waldos vid on how to make one. Easy enough, but we're not sure what it does exactly . We are also looking at my Troy Post build that is wired with Waldos OBEL as well as all the coil splits including one just for the center pup. However we don't see any evidence of a blend pot inside. Is it there and we're just not recognizing it? Could someone please explain?
It's just one pot that controls the tone for 2 types of pickups. Humbucking pickups are usually wired to a 500k pot and single coil are usually wired to 250k. Tiger has 1 tone pot for the neck and bridge pickups - and 1 pot for the middle pickup. The neck pickup, the SDS-1 is single coil, and the bridge pickup is double coil - both of these need to be wired to different value pots. But since you only have 2 pots to control 3 pickups, one pair is going to be needed to be wired to one pot. With a 5 way start style pickup selector - the neck and the bridge will never be on at the same time. So, instead of needing 3 whole tone pots - this dual ganged pot is used so that one knob actually controls 2 separate value pots going to the 2 different types of pickups.
