He's usually the complete opposite of what Jerry was when it comes to interviews.....and that was no exception.....He basically had nothing to say.

Looks like Bob had his Oldfield amp. Glad to see him out playing but arthritis has really ravaged him. I thought truckin was good but althea he had trouble moving his hands.

I thought Mayer's strat sounded very "straty" on those two songs. Not Alligator straty- Fender straty. Not bad necessarily- just "obvious".

Yeah if you can get past a lot of his cheesiness he's actually pretty nasty on the Strat. I've always felt some guys playing is just so tailored to the Strat and IMO he's certainly one of them.

My guess is that's not the reason....

EDIT: upon further reflection- arthritis *could* be the reason, as long as you remember the old Ferrari joke about their party line explanation for why a car dropped out of a race: low on oil (...due to a hole in the side of the block from a massive internal failure...)

Thanks for posting, I couldn't stay up late enough to watch last night. I thought Bob looked/sounded pretty good and hopefully this translates into some shows (acoustic please) this year. While not a huge fan of or overly familiar with John Mayer, he seems to have genuinely gotten into the Dead, which is cool.

Yeah a straty Strat tone, I wasn't sure at first but it grew on me quick, I like the way JM played it

So I find the JM solo interesting but didn't quite do it for me. I am just Happy this song is still getting played. Who ever plays it.

Regarding Weir's playing... sounded strong in Truckin' but weaker in Althea. I attributed that to hybrid slide and finger picking. Sounded like he was stuggling to get his slide notes to ring thru. Maybe the action shifted and he was bottoming out or he's so used to his comp/limiter that he was just too soft or that the effects he chose were just bad for the song like an Env filter not set right and not opening. Something was off...

Weir has been struggling with arthritis for years. got a xmas gift consisting of weir's empty rx arthritis bottle 10-15 yrs back from friend who ran errands for the bands. I think that's a large part of the issue he has had with his shoulder. I dont' know if that's the reason he cancelled tho.
