Yea T, but it was completely therapeutic.

The bus has gone so far from the feathered-hair- '69 Mach - I guy I was then. I knew 2 guys who listened to the Dead in the early days. Both from Long Island. College days. I could not figure it out. Sounded like country music which (at the time) was simply unthinkable. I was really into Zep & Floyd primarily. The rest of those days was girl chasing & partying. Those were good days. Aids hadn't been invented. Society was still urging sex as a major pastime. Debauchery was a full-time job.

Jerry & the Gang let my inner freak out, and I gotta tell ya'all...he was not going back in that box!

I was a slow learner, but by late '81 or early '82...

Been listening to the 80-82 time frame a lot. Jer had the killer tone . I think the Scarlet> Fire from 5-11 -80 gets an A++ for sheer force of will highly underrated. Jerry just opens up on the outro. I actually have transcribed that one in standard notation. The odd paring of Stranger > Terrapin has some very outside playing in the transition, like Ornette Coleman or Monk type stuff .

Would love to see your transcription. I've been doing a fair amount of transcription (albeit tab) myself lately--all JGB though. My process is to scan youtube for vids to pick up any obvious stuff and then dig in with Transcribe and a pair of headphones. I ran across your Waiting for a Miracle video. Leo, not only can you make a guitar, you can really play one! Good stuff.

I too have been focusing on JGB stuff. I am currently working on the Run for the Roses solo from 06-18-82 Cape Cod ( one of the few I have heard with a Mutron live)
I have notebook of tab I have written but , they are just the notes not even subdivided into proper measures .Correctly writing out rhythms are the trick for me . The tough part is transcribing in standard notation in GP6. I have done most of the (big) solos on the live Garcia album( black discs with Kahn's art work on the cover)Deal (verse and outro) , Evangeline (1st 2 choruses) Dear prudence(solo) , way you do the thing you do (1st 2 choruses) Don't let go (until 8:00 then picking up again at about 10:18 till the end) Waiting for a miracle. Catfish John 3-1-1980 (3 choruses)Most of how sweet it is from that date, and a good chunk of Harder they Come from the same date.
Here is a link to the deal solo I have to warn you that I kinda rush a few parts but, it is mostly there.

What is it about the rhythms and going to standard notation that gives you trouble? Maybe we can help.

May be you can. It is the nuance and embellishments that are tough for me. Like the 3 and 4 note pull offs where it could be 4 notes played over the span of 3, or 4 32nd notes or a dotted 16th followed by a 16th note triplet .I can count 8th an 16th not phrases all day long but, Jerry does not play like that. It just depends on the specific phrase. he also plays many 2 note triplets like in Evangeline starting in bar 90 of the solo. I would be glad to share what I have and see what you guys can do with it. I have always found it hard to believe that there are not more good transcriptions out there . I think it is important not to just play the notes but, I try to listen and differentiate where the note is being played on the fret board . A 2nd fret E does not sound like a 7th fret E or a 12 fret E. I know I have drifted very far from shore on the topic so I will conclude.I am not sure how to post GP6 files.

I think your "troubles" are justified. Rhythms are difficult for me also. My solution is to subdivide the tab measures and put the notes where they fall. This gives me a good enough sense of the note durations and how the phrasing is developing.

No worries on posting your stuff Leo. I thought it might be fun to see it in standard notation as opposed to tab. Right now, honestly, for learning these songs I prefer to do the dirty work myself. Taking the time to transcribe has been a boon to my playing and I'm enjoying it, as difficulty and time consuming as it can be.

Cool Leo. All I've ever done with Transcribe is slow Jerry/Bob lines down and play against them. Is that synth function some aspect I'm not using?

yea if you go to the file tab you can export as a mp3 or a png. document. I sync the transcription with the real audio it is spot on hence, the slight tempo changes in Evangaline. These tempo changes happen a strategic parts in the song like the start of the chorus or the start of the solo they must be on purpose.
