Being a neophyte collector, is it bad for such a heavy guitar to hang by the headstock in a display case? Does it put pressure on the neck without any support under the body?

It sure would be great to see Irsay loan the Tiger out for the upcoming 50th year for a tour or Jerry Day or something.

I also wondered about that with just my Strat. Seems like could put stress on the bolt on joint

I can't imagine that hanging would cause any problems. The guitar goes through a lot more stress from string tension, which ranges from 15lbs to 20lbs per string. Times 6, that's at least 75lbs of force, more likely over 100lbs, which, across a neck joint like a bolt on, is force that is trying to bend the neck forward and out of the neck pocket. Hanging force is straight on, which is much easier for the joint to bear.

Wow. What a great grasp of physics. I wasn't expecting to learn something from this post.

Can you believe the strings were never changed? Perhaps he could sell those off on a weighted average of what the guitar was worth at auction. Let's see Garcia paid about $9000 for the guitar and $6 for the strings. Multiply that by 100 and the strings should be worth about $600. That's $100 per string.
