The earth drive in front does work nice. I do that quite often. I do have some issues with the Mutron pre earth drive.

I find that the earth drives adds a little dimension to some of the effects post obel. Mainly my qtron responds the most to earth drive as it adds a little growl to the quack. I have actually come to enjoy the way it sounds.

I guess in theory it would be variable with the volume pot, but keep in mind that when I have ED on, Its very, very subtle. My settings vary slightly depending on the room but its generally volume around 5 and distortion around 3-4. By taking it out of the effects loop, I have not found the variability unmanageable.

My overall goal is to have the stage volume at reasonable, professional level so I am not blowing everyone out of the water while trying to achieve my tone. This is how I solve the problem of stage volume in a room that can't handle an exceptionally loud amp. Cheers! ~Bill
