Aye. It might even be one show. I read it as Phil saying saying the Dead has lost its original spark. Bob likes doing his thing and Phil likes his. Unless they can find a new "edge", why bother?

I hate to say I don't like Bob's new material. It's not because I'm not open to new songs either. I was bored out of my mind through the new material when I saw Ratdog. I blame the sax, which is why some of you must be saying a reunion has to be just the core four.

Here's the thig: as we've said before, Ace is very much suited to the rhythm guitar. If you don't believe it, check out the Hartbeat shows from '68, specifically a performance of "The Eleven". Jerry sounds empty without his backing. I like to think of it in terms of color. Phil does the darker blue/greys and it runs up to Jerry and Bob's oranges. But Jerry and Bob make different shapes of orange. They all have to fit together to see the whole picture.

We all know no one can fill Jerry's shoes, but in the case where someone takes his spot for those one or two reunion shows, it's not going to be the same texture, and if it's a new one, it's not going to be so radically new as to motivate anyone to stay together.

It's a lot like what's wrong with SCI now. Born on the Wrong Planet is totally new and fresh, but Nershi is right on in saying the new stuff lacks the spark. The shows are fun, but they're not on the edge.

The Dead can never go Furthur. (But I digress)

according to the p@f's web site , there is a rumor about a Phil ,Bobby, and Trey tour this summer.Now i realize this aint the dead, but Phil& Trey were great last summer!Ithink Trey is the most qualified choice for Jerrys parts, and he seems to gel with Phil pretty well.But does Bob think hes Jerry now?

The Dead are a thing in the past. No sense in revisiting it. Unless they could get together and write some new music (which I doubt would ever happen) I would not want to see the remaining members be another GD cover band. I loved the music and the tours while it was happening, but it's All Over Now....

first off, it's the Herring/Haynes shred team that really makes me wanna go with just the four true Dead members, but sax has the same effect for me.

2nd, I love some of the M&HB's stuff, especially the Dark Stars. I can see how The Eleven does become a bit thin-sounding though.

3rd, SCI has been boring the bejesus out of me since about 2000... they just have no capacity to SCARE me at all. Where's the fire-breathing Balrog, about to tear my face off??
