I have a line on a very affordable Liberator cab, can anyone share info on the difference in construction and tone vs a JG1 cab?

Merely guesses from looking at their product descriptions...The Liberator only claims a solid baltic birch baffle. So I'll infer the cab is MDF or some other cheaper plywood coated in road liner. Dimensions look slightly different as well. Speaker wire is "only" 16 gauge compared to "top of the line Belden 8473 14 gauge Speaker Wire." Finally, it looks like speaker options from the factory are different. The Liberator with Eminence offerings and the JG1 with Tone Tubby. I would further guess the JG is front loaded with the aluminum speaker clamps and the Liberator is rear loaded.

If I had to guess, it's not 3/4" and not void less and possibly fewer layers (not 13 ply)... thus the coating. It's not mdf or particle as that would make it heavier, not lighter as they state. I'm cool with all of that, in fact I'm convinced that for JBL's, the less cab the better.

It was a great price so it's on the way. I'll report back when I get to check it out and know more (though I've never played through a true JG for comparisons).

FWIW I'm 100% satisfied with my two Sound Scaper Production cabs. Tracy builds them well and prices them fairly.

^+1 for SSP. I saw on ebay a little while back that someone was selling a (used) 1x12 HT cabinet, asking $1700! That would buy a whole lot from Tracy. (And Tracy's super-cool)

Thanks Jon and chipper... The 2x12 liberator that I found is empty, and actually cheaper shipped than the SSP... Otherwise that's the direction I would have eventually gone.

Lighter wood on the cab, truck bed liner like black textured coating. Hex bolts with standard speaker cab pronged insert nuts for everything including the handles and jack plate. Front mount speakers, but without the outer clips. The holes in the grill are not large enough for a K or E120.

I used some JBWeld to secure the speaker mount nuts... Have used this technique before. I'll give it a sound test tomorrow once that dries. Probably worth the $225 plus shipping I paid for it, but if I had to do it all over I'd get the SSP.

I am confused re: the holes in the grill aren't big enough for JBL's?
Are you talking about the grill that covers the speaker? Does the JBL mount in the cab ok?

They front mount just fine, but he holes in the wood that is covered in cloth (super light practical or mdf) are just shy of the outer diameter of the spider at the face, or mounting point. This cab is slightly smaller than the JG cab, does hold 2x12's, but I do not believe that it was designed or intended for JBL's.
