not every show the Dead ever played is on the archive or torrent sites. Do you ever wonder if theres some incredibly rare/never heard before show that is just FUCKING incredible?

There's bound to be some sort of little known treasure out there. Show's that blow '74 Jai-Alai out of the water, or all the october 68 shows, or the september-october 81 runs. The government might even try to be covering it up. Area 51 is the tapes location, I bet.

My stepdad used to be good friends with the archivist Charlie Miller, one of the few people that actually has access to the vault, he told me that like 10 years ago he would just call him up and get a soundboard recording of any show the dead ever played that he wanted. N he gave me his whole tape collection. Cuz he says he likes minidiscs way better neways n he has 1000s of em from the dead and phish n all kinds of other amazing rare shit. He used to be a taper with a nice rig so he was in on all the little taping circles and got tons of cool shit. We even have video footage of the woodstock show, but i think he found that sumwhere n the deep dark depths of the internet. We also have a bootleg tape with the dead on playboy after dark from '69 (which is kinda neat), and the movie that was made from the 8/27/72 show that never got mass distributed

Charlie Miller is the man. I used to trade minidiscs with him back in the day, I was just getting started, but he still loved the minidisc, and he had access to the vault, so it was amazing for me, I got some amazing shows right off the bat for my collection. Stuff changed my life.

meeting people through the the "dead heads" group on facebook has given me the oppurtunity to trade for some amazing shows, its awesome

yes i do wonder about those shows....because they do exist! archive took down many many shows by request from the band. most of the really good shows cant even be streamed, or listed there, such a bummer. I do know someone who invested in 3 large external hard drives, and downloaded all the shows before the "questionable" decision was made to disable all downloads. It took him 2 months of constant downloads, I mean all of 'em, every single recording that was avaliable, sbd's, aud's, everything.

It would be great to see a list of shows that were taken down so we'd have it for reference.

yea but when he got it, no one had it. at least playboy thing n the 8/27/72 movie (which i highly reccomend looking around for, one of the best dark stars evr, imo

not currently, all of my shows are on cassette, which are hard to put on the computer unless you have the right equipment, which i dont. i think most of my stepdads Charlie Miller shows are on minidisc, and those r way better quality and hes got hundreds of those, but i dont have the equipment or the know-how to get any of that stuff on bitlord.

There will always be a hidden gem out there somewhere we might never come across, think of all the bands and great songs you stumble across and get heavily into. It so easily might never had happened and you wouldn't be any the wiser.

Maybe it's musical fate.
