If you want Jerry tones in a LP, I would go for one of the p90 models. I can get a pretty good LiveDead tone out of my 60s tribute. That may not be the Jerry tone you are thinking of, though.

Myself, I don't want Jerry tones in a LP at all. I bought a LP once just to experience one. Though I love how LPs sound in others' hands, that one was enough for me! It just seemed to me others who do like LPs might perhaps dig the new reissue for Jerry tones. Then again, the concept might be too outside of the box (we guitarists tend to be a conservative lot when it comes to gear).

I love Les Pauls... and I drooled over this guitar in brochures as a youngster... but now I think it's butt ugly - in a semi-cool nostalgic sort of way. I'm pretty stunned that Gibson reissued this... I like that they are taking some odd chances.

I agree that P90's get there... and an SG with Dual Sounds and/or Lollar low winds works quite well of that late 60's tone. That's pretty much my sweet spot for Jerryesque stuff. My Les Pauls serve a lot of needs, but not for Dead tones (more like Duane tones).

I've had a 78 Les Paul since 1981 and was my gigging guitar in my Dead band from 86-90. While not traditional Jerry tone it worked and was great for Allman Bros tunes and harder rocking stuff. I'll take it out as a backup on occasion. It's an old friend.

I ordered one of these over the weekend from Sweetwater. It is a bit too much money but I have a few guitars collection dust so I will throw them up on the bay and recoup some expenses. I'm not exactly going for Jerry sound but I love to tinker and have always been interested in this model. Like many I expect, I don't have much experience with low impedance pickups. I'm interested in see what sounds I can get out of it. Below is a picture of the one I got. The top is really killer. It should be here sometime this week.

One thing that I have noticed in the descriptions on Gibson's website as well as Sweetwater is the description of the pickups. I don't think they are using low impedance pickups like in the originals. It sounds like they are using standard high impedance pickups and using an internal DI to convert it to low impedance. Not sure how much I like that.

I've got a '69 Les Paul Deluxe I've had since I was 14. Abused in every way, but I love that guitar like a girlfriend!

Well I got the guitar last week. Really enjoying it so far. I am already itching to modify it's electronics though. I think I am going to move the dual/single switches to push pull pots and move the out of phase switch to one of the tone pots. That will free up three switches. Might try out a Waldo buffer as well as some other ideas I have.

Just kidding. I was surprised to see Gibson reissue this, not shocked they did some trick to not use the original low impedance pickups, though. I got to know Les Paul the last 15 years or so of his life, was even lucky enough to write half of the booklet for a Les Paul album, a decade ago ( http://www.amazon.com/Les-Paul-Trio-Bro ... B002MFCQ4E ). Les always played with low z pickups, swore by them, said they were the best thing he ever invented and Gibson didn't get it. He also kept an original version of that guitar on stage at his NYC shows on Monday nights for people to use when sitting in. 30 years ago you could pick up an LP Recording Model for $300-400, people were giving them away, now they are back in style. What goes around comes around I guess. Enjoy your new guitar!
