i am a self taught guitar player and i have been playing for about two years. up till now i have been playing rythem but now i want to learn to play lead and solo. i know a few scales and modes. any advice?

A few weeks ago someone had posted a GP interview with Jerry where he talked about doing solos which you should check out. Basically you should start off learning to play the melody of the tune as the solo and then work on adding or subtracting to that melody line. Some other advice I received early on was sing a phrase that you would think sounds good over the music and then work out how to play it.
