a phil bomb is a note that I have only ever heard phil play that burst through your body like a wave of sensation and sends you bursting through levels of conscience like a rocket in hypre drive. at the show in the phile zone or phils side of the stage where his speakers are transforms the very existance of any other note droppped at the exact moment and taking its fleeting space in time like fall leaves changing you perspective on the bass guitar forever.

Put on the "Morning Dew" from 6-18-83 and you'll know what a Phil bomb is,,,'nuff said.

You MUST listen to 6/20/83 wharf rat, ESPECIALLY if you're green in the phil bomb department.

You can stream an aud of it at archive.org.

The aforementioned dew is no slouch either.

I'll try to make it easier. See if this link works.

i think this was mentioned in another thread but just in case. Phil drops some bombs in the beginning of Scarlet sometimes, particularly the Cornell show.

technically, a bomb is when phil thumps a chord on his bass instead of just single notes like usual. Listen on Bertha, on the verses, on the 'C' chord he will sometimes hit the root of 'C' and the fifth below of 'G'. You can try it yourself on a guitar or whatever, play a C chord, and then play a C add G with the extra G bass note. Its a cool trick.

I'm sorry but I don't care if it's one or more notes. If it shakes my brain it's a BOMB!

Thanks for the tecnical breakdown ;)

No prob bw. A little story behind this involved a couple of friends of mine who went down to merriweather for those shows and I forget why but for some reason I couldn't make it. they came back and while wiping the drool from their mouths told me what I missed. Only when I listened to the show did I really know what they were talking about.

The whole show is definitely worth a listen.

I have never understood bass - or music at all - so well as I did last night. It was the bassist's birthday, and he was really on! Down front getting shaken up...

I don't think a bomb needs to be a double stop. Theres plenty of single note bombs.
