i have an acoustic set Garcia/Kahn in the early 80's from my sister, has a great I've Been All Around This World and Reubin and Cerise.

Actually 4/10/82 is the only day JG played solo since the 60s. There was an early an late show this date:

As the story was told to me Jerry hated it so much that he called up John Kahn to join him for the remaining dates.

But totally agree they are amazing. I was shocked when told about his dislike of solo performances because you couldn't even tell!!!

I've been readin all these posts day after day and it just dawned on me... strumminsix: you really do know almost everything about everything. Mad props to you, man! Anyway, on the subject; I too really enjoy the Garcia and Kahn acoustic sound during the eighties. My favorite show is the '85 (?) oregon state prison. Btw, I can't seem to find it and it was burned for me by a friend. Anybody know where I can find this show?

JONZILLA - thanks for the compliment! It's far from the truth but I appreciate it just the same. I've relied on friends to help me become more educated on subjects like music, rigs, the GD and all so I see this forum as a way to give back to the people who had to be very patient with me asking 1,001 questions a day. Plus I love talking about this stuff and my job gives me time to browse between things to do.

hobbsy, did you goto bt.etree.org and used a Bit Torrent client? There are a few tutorials on that site that should help! If you can't get it hit me up with a PM and I'll send you the shows or do a B&P.

But before you get discouraged goto the forums there and really try to learn how to do it! It was very foreign to me but it's not all that difficult and will allow you access to so much music!!!

he probably hated it because he had to solo in complete silence, seems like thatd be pretty hard and you could lose your timing

I actually think he had a thing about being on the stage by himself. You'd think after all those years he'd of gotten over any phobias, but then again, he was always playing with someone.

I was fortunate enough to catch the double gig at the Beacon Theatre that run.

I have an excellent quality cd of that Oregon State Pen. show if you want it. I've had it for years and listen to it all the time. I think it is from earlier, like 1981 or 1982. It's at home and I am at work. It has amazing FOTD, Dire Wolf, Valerie, Run for the Roses, etc.

i downloaded the 5/5/82 show from gdlive.com a long time ago. I've only got 9 tracks from the show, but I think there's supposed to be 11. It's worth a listen in my opinion.

I've had a chance to listen to the solo show and found it amazing. It really proves how unique his style of playing was. I always tell people how he is the epitome of a lead guitarist because of his ability to play rythym and solo at the same time...and make each part sound just as full as the other, if you can follow me. It's hard to pick out when he's got a whole band with him but one listen to Been All Around This World and it's obvious. Run for the Roses was another highlight from that set for me.

If you want to really hear Jerry then you gotta get back to the 70's and to where he was most at ease, with The JGB in Berkeley. Try Mystery Train from the 73' Keystone show released on CD, imo his best guitar solo ever. Also right up ther would be 2/14/76 Keystone, pick from Sitting in Limbo, Catfish John, or Mystery Train. His voice and guitar playing never was sweeter.

I believe this one is October of '82. One of the first tapes I ever had. Wore it out years ago. Anybody know if it's available for download anywhere? That For the Roses is very, very nice. Also a Rubin and Cherise where he apologizes beforehand that he may not remember all the lyrics if I remember correctly. Something about it having alot words and "I might not remember them all"
