Hey guys wats up. I've been trolling around here for a while, but never registered up until now. This is because im wishing to expand my GD collection. I am sort of newbish. I have 36 Grateful Dead albums. I have every studio album, and the rest are all live. I only have 5 Dick's Picks, and I am wishing to further my collection. Already i have volumes 1, 3, 5, 8, and 10. I figured i have some extra money, i will buy around 10 dick's picks. So here's my question:

What would you say your top 10-15 Dick's Pick's are? Consider sound/playing quality, set, and the overall vibes and attitude of the show!
Thanks alot for any input i get!

You asked for it:

I tend to like shows I was at, so I enjoy these:

DP - 21 (11/1/85)
DP - 17 (9/25/91)
DP - 32 (8/7/82)
DP - 27 (12/16/92)

As far as others:

DP - 4 is incredible (2/13-14/70)
DP - 26 I love TC (4/26-27/69)

Although not DP, I love Nightfall of Diamonds because it was like I was at a show from the early 70's (check out the second set) and Dozin' at the Knick for the energy I remember from the shows. I like a variety, so I try to pick ones from different eras that represent different things. I also like that you can buy a whole set of DP's, which I did once. That's my two cents.

Right, man. Enjoy what you have. It's not about how many discs you have.

I would look at the show dates of the DPs remaining and then take a selection from the different periods until you develop a feel of what you like best.
I like the Fillmore 1969 box set and DPs 29 and 31 are favorites as well.

I have man. I love it. And I love the live albums that i already have, but i want to hear more...It's like, i listened to Good Lovin' from Rockin' the Rhein, and i thought, wow, Pigpen has a great voice. It's like that, but with so many other songs. I want to hear more!!!

Thanks for the input so far!

if you REALLY wanna expand your musical plain, get Birth of the Dead. It has a concert from june or july of 66. AWESOME material. you can download it on www.gdlive.com, but if youre like me, and cant download/burn songs, buying the album is your only choice.

I second 19, only I'm not a fan of the WOS sound.
For something from the 19 era, I dug what there was of 1, I felt the guitars had more crunch.

DP 30 to me is astonishing. I like pig up in the mix, and thats what he is. Alot of the songs have alot more energy, it has a Tennessee Jed I actually like ;)

Dude -

Save your money, buy a bunch of blank cd's & burn some shows off the net. Waaaaaay cheaper.

i would get one of each time period, the beginning, around 70, mid seventies and 80, then you've got everything you need

Good call Phreaker! Birth of the Dead was the first album I
got, as a gift from my gf. Only place I've seen "The Only
Time is Now" and it has other goodies too, like "Mindbender".
Get it!
