Here is some info on Modes and Notes.
MAJOR MODES:
Ionian
Lyndian
Mixolydian
MINOR MODES:
Aeolian
Locrian
Dorian
Phrygian
The parent Major Scale contains the notes of all 7 modes which are derived from it. So for the C Major Scale (C D E F G A B) the 7 modes will all contain those notes but just starting and ending on each note from the Major Scale for each derived mode. So the modes will always be in this order:
C Ionian: (a.k.a the major scale)
C D E F G A B C
D Dorian:
D E F G A B C D
E Phrygian:
E F G A B C D E
F Lydian:
F G A B C D E F
G Mixolydian:
G A B C D E F G
A Aeolian: (a.k.a the minor scale or relative minor)
A B C D E F G A
B Locrian:
B C D E F G A B
The derived modes will always be in this same order.
If you play the G major scale the modes will be derived from the G major scale but they will still be in the same order...as follows:
G Ionian: (G Major)
G A B C D E F# G
A Dorian:
A B C D E F# G A
B Phrygian:
B C D E F# G A B
C Lydian:
C D E F# G A B C
D Mixolydian:
D E F# G A B C D
E Aeolian: (E minor)
E F# G A B C D E
F# Locrian:
F# G A B C D E F#
Can you see the patterns in there? Hopefully you can and hopefully that is a help to someone out there and maybe a reference point in future.
Please feel free to correct me or add to what I write or ask any questions....
Thank you all....
