I'm trying to woo a girl with a song, but I can't write one. So, I was wondering what you guys think the Dead's best love songs are. All help and ideas are appriciated.

I think if you are trying to woo her you better go original.

The only beautiful guitar love song I can think of is:
Code: Select all
I’LL HAVE TO SAY I LOVE YOU IN A SONG

(Jim Croce) Blendingwell Music, Inc. – ASCAP

(guitar tuning – EADGBE, Capo II)

           Amaj7 C#m7>Bm7
Well, I know it's kind of late

                      E
I hope I didn't wake you

               Amaj7 C#m7>Bm7
But what I got to say can't wait

                            E
I know you'd understand

D D#dim
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you

      C#7 F#m>D
The words just came out wrong

         A E D>Amaj7
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

Yeah, I know it's kind of strange
But ev'ry time I'm near you
I just run out of things to say
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

(Instrumental break)

Ev'ry time the time was right
All the words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

Yeah, I know it's kind of late
I hope I didn't wake you
But there's something that I just got to say
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

The greatest love song ever written --

Standing on the Moon

If that doesn't work, go right into Loose Lucy.

I love Standing on the Moon too, could Althea be considered one? I love that song...also I love Reuben and Cherise but thats really a Jerry song

To Lay Me Down also..

There is only one song that I feel is right for this and that song is The Stranger(Two Souls in Communion). I can't get enough of that song right now!

I don't know about this one......it's more of a "I had you and blew it with you, now you're gone and I want to get you back" song, isn't it?

To Lay Me Down?

It's speed makes it sort of hard to play and sing though, but go for it if you can make it sound cohesive.

I always thought the narrator in to lay me down was breaking up with his girl. Or dieing. I'd stay away from Looks like rain too. The whole street cat verse might skeeze them out a little. Standing on the moon, Not fade away, They love each other, or ruben and cherise would be better options.

To lay me down! definitely. or They Love Each Other

Wow most of the suggestions here are either of love lost or lovers apart.

Aw man, you should learn some James Taylor. "Something in the Way She Moves" or "You Can Close Your Eyes." Beautiful love songs. Works every time...

I think Attics of My Life is the Dead's best love song. Not that practical as far as playing by yourself without three part harmony, good song though

"To Lay Me Down" was a song about dying I always thought.
